Children

Childhood can be a magical time of development and growth. Infant and early childhood psychiatry focuses on the promotion of mental health in infants, toddlers, preschoolers and their families. Early in life, a person’s experiences are beginning and the brain is adaptable, which gives an opportunity for intervention before maladaptive patterns are firmly established and can potentially prevent later problems. There is rapid and profound brain development in the first three years of life and the nature of early experiences during those first few years of life impacts and shapes current and later development. Infant-caregiver relationships are the primary focus of assessment and intervention.

As children enter school with increasing academic and social demands, other concerns may arise with attention, behavior, or peer relationships. These conditions can be addressed through psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, and lifestyle interventions.

Services for children include assessment and management of:

        Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

        Autism Spectrum Disorder
